As citizens of Earth, protecting the environment is very important to us. While we hope to improve and learn more each day, here are some of the steps we have already taken to minimise our impact. At Villas Ecotucan, electricity is 100% solar. Currently we use propane to heat hot water during the winter season; however, we plan to move to 100 % solar-powered water heaters this year.

We have installed a nationally-approved septic tank system that separates septic from “grey water”, which we filter and then use to water of our fruit trees. Whenever possible, we recycle and reuse any plastic, metal and paper products.

Villas Ecotucan is an ecological hotel and we try our best to minimize the impact we have on our environment. We expect that all guests will also respect the nature that surrounds us and treat it properly. Guests experience some restrictions on power consumption due to the fact that Villas Ecotucan has solar-powered electricity. A maximum of fours hours of 110 AC power is available in the common areas for lights, music, etc. Each cabin has a daily allotment of eight hours of 12 volt DC power for fans, lights and 12V appliances.

Eager to give back to the community, we host local school children at our hotel for daytrips of kayaking, bicycling, birdwatching, and basic environmental protection workshops. Through this program we are fostering awareness and love for the natural environment in young ones.
